Founded in 1997, the company's artistic voice is one of collaboration. The Artistic Director, Donna Scro Gentile, has danced with Nikolais and Murray Louis Dance and Sean Curran Company and has collaborated choreographically with Gaspard Louis formerly of Pilobolus Dance Theatre. The company has been sponsored twice by the Great Events Series at Montclair State University, and has performed at many venues including DANCE: Access, a self produced series administered by Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, Joyce SoHo, 20th Annual Downtown Arts Festival, Dancenow Festival '01, '02, Tisch Summer Residency Festival '01-'03, Dancers Responding to AIDS: The Remember Project '01, '02, Sweat Festival at DeBaun Auditorium, Cathedral Arts Festival, On The 6th Floor! at Ballet Arts, Dance In Education Fund at SUNY Purchase, The Hatch Series, American College Dance Festival, Dance Now: a series presented by Dance New Jersey, American Dance Guild's Festival 2003, The 2003 d.u.m.b.o. Arts Festival at White Wave, Arts at Grace Church in Jersey City, The Kaplan Theatre in Houston, Texas and Southern Utah State University. Freespace recently collaborated with the Tunnel Vision Writers Group on The Body Project. In addition to their performing credits, Freespace Dance is a member of the Arts in Education program of New Jersey's Arts Council of the Morris Area, where they perform assembly programs and teach residencies for various school districts and private schools in New Jersey.
